Gods of Probabilities @Liza0Connor

Meet Athena
Athena has known she was born to create the most fabulous art in the multiverses and to enchant men by her merest gaze.
While the first was working out very well.

The second goal had yet to begin. Whenever she walks into a room with crewmen, instead of falling to their knees in worship, they turn away from her. If she boldly approaches them, they scatter like bunnies fleeing a pack of dire wolves.

She wishes to determine if this behavior is due to her father or grandfather’s doing. The first thing she discovers is that their aversion only works in person. If she calls them via the computer, they drool and grunt as they appear to be jerking themselves off.

Upon teleconferencing all the men in the ship, she realizes she owes a great debt of gratitude to whoever placed the fear of a God on the male crew. They all possess fair faces, but it’s accompanied with horrid personalities, stupendous vanity, and total ignorance.

She spends nearly a billion years trying to figure out how to get new crewmember. And then the solution appears when her father asks for her help.

Excerpt
After ten billion years had passed and not one life form was to be found on any planet, Zousan decided he needed his brightest mind working on how to move things along.  So he called in his daughter.

“I know you love painting, but I was sent here to make a better world, and while you’ve made the galaxies gorgeous, none of the planets have life on them. Nor does any of the crew know how to make life.”

“Why would grandfather not share that?” Athena asked.

Zousan wanted to say, “Because he’s an ass.” Upon taking a breath, he softened his response since Athena still loved the pompous, overbearing jerk. “He wants me to fail at my task. He sees this as a chance to humiliate and humble me.”

Athena hugged him, dissipating his anger at once. “I’m sorry. I wish you would have told me sooner.”
Zousan blinked. “Does that mean you know how to make life?”

She grinned. “Grandfather, showed me how when I was but a year old. All we need are chemicals, an electric spark, and lots and lots of time.”

Excerpt Ended

Once they had established life, the life got rowdy, requiring the Gods to land on the planets and bully them into better behaving beings. In the process of this education to behave better, many half-Gods were born later in the year.

Athena convinced her father to build a bigger ship so they could take on the half-Gods. From this new set of crew, surely she could mesmerize some of them into loving servants.

Heart's Inferno by Georgia Lyn Hunter

Heart's Inferno - Fallen Guardians

Liza’s Questions:
Q: How did you ever conceive all the dangers that occur in this story?
A: My mind is a really, really morbid place. J Actually, when I started off writing, I had a vague idea what certain scenes demanded, and as I got deeper into the book, it just sorta came to me. Mostly, I write things that are really difficult and absolutely terrifying, and would in reality, scare the crap out of me. And researching medieval torture methods? It was blood chilling. Guess I must have a very macabre soul to finish my research--LOL. But then, Game of thrones is my absolute fave series. So blood and gore, yeah, it’s my thing J

Q: What were your inspirations when creating all creatures in this story?
A: Well…I knew I wanted scary ones, suited to the Dark Realm. So, I researched for the type of creatures I'm working with, then play around with writing descriptions for them and such, and suddenly it all emerges, it’s like I’ve suddenly tapped into this cavern in my mind, and I just write, and these creatures spill out.

Q: You had several surprises in this book, where people are not what they truly are. Yet each of the persons/creatures react in very different ways. Was doing so hard?
A: It wasn’t hard per say, I write each person/creature initially with base ideas, then let my instincts take over with them, and in a way I guess, their own individuality emerges from there. So, just a lot of rewrites as the story progress, until I get them just right… But my Guardians, I know from book 1—well, I usually have an idea as to who and what they are—and what makes them tick from the start of the series. But, it isn’t until I write their books, that I dig deeper and come to know and understand them better.

Q: This story could have been very dark, but you leveled it out by providing happy moments and lots of sexual moments. Job well done!
A: Thank you. I love that they can have those funny/brighter, and sexy moments, no matter how hard life is. It’s what holds it all together, I think.

Excerpt from chapter 1

As Týr jogged down to the ground floor, Hedori acknowledged him with a nod, and the ice queen who’d reigned during the reception and tacitly ignored his provocations turned, too. Her hazel-green eyes flared in irritation, the color a startling contrast to her luscious, creamy-latte skin.

“Sire, we have a bit of a situation,” Hedori said. “With the fae here, and guests still about, I cannot leave the castle just yet. Would you take Kira home?”

“No-no, Heds,” she quickly countered. “I’ll wait for you.”

He should leave, walk out. Aethan or another could take her, but Týr couldn’t resist. “Ah, Fluff, you wound me. Truly.”

Her head snapped his way. “Yes…maybe, if I thought for one second there was a heart or soul buried somewhere deep down under that shell,” she said sweetly, tone spiked with venom. She faced Hedori again, sweet as treacle. “How long do you think you’ll be?”

Hiding his amusement, Týr sighed loudly as if put out. “C’mon, Fluff, let’s get you home.”

She pivoted so fast, fingers fisting as if she wanted to punch him. “Call me that again, and I swear, I’ll—” She broke off, her expression tightening as softer footsteps echoed. Lila Smith, their Oracle and the she-devil’s grandmother, rounded the staircase a moment later.

Hedori nodded to them and departed.

“Thank goodness you’re still here, Kira dear,” Lila breathed. “Would you— Oh, hello, Warrior,” she greeted him softly with a regal incline of her gray-haired head.

Lila usually treated the Guardians injured by those annoying demon bolts with her miracle potions and salves since they couldn’t self-heal that crap fast enough. More annoying, those open wounds acted like a damn tracking device for the hellscums.

“Oracle,” he returned politely.

Lila glanced back at Kira. “I have to go to Seattle for a few days. The coven has a problem and needs my help. It would ease my mind if you stayed here at the castle until my return.”

“Gran, I don’t know why you worry so much. It’s not the first time I’ve been alone. Besides, I have to go to work. I’ll be okay, really.”

Týr could sense the Oracle’s growing anxiety, though her expression remained serene. It could only mean that whatever had gotten her so worked up was serious. Michael should talk to her. Better if the Guardians knew what trouble was stirring.

Lila glanced at him. “Warrior? Would you—?”

“Gran, no!”

Her horrified yell had Týr narrowing his eyes. He’d be the first to admit that he wasn’t fit company for females to be around for any length of time, but she and the Oracle were under Michael’s protection, and by default, the Guardians’, too.

And he took his damn job seriously.

“It would be my absolute pleasure,” he overrode Kira’s protest with as much sincerity as he could dredge up.

If it were anyone else they would have undoubtedly stepped back at her death glare.

But his own perverse nature when it came to her wouldn’t let him back down. He merely quirked an eyebrow, enjoying her flush of frustration, and sent a quick telepathic message to Aethan. Babysit Ely tonight. Have to do a favor for the Oracle.

Would that have anything to do with a certain bridesmaid who wants to leave immediately? the Empyrean shot back, laughter echoing through their mental connection.

Damn smug bastard. As if he needed another funny-man around. Týr shut off their mind-link with a hard slam.

“Are you leaving also?” Týr asked the Oracle, suspending his silent stand-off with Kira.

“Yes, if you wouldn’t mind, Warrior.”

“Not at all.” He crossed to the enormous front door, opened it, and stood back.

“I’ll go get my coat.” Lila hurried off.
Kira stomped past him with no outdoor wear or scarf. Hell, he’d never known lush lips could thin so much. Týr followed her out into the freezing weather. “Where’s your jacket?”

“I’m hot.”

“Yeah, you are,” he muttered under his breath.

Her head snapped to him, eyes flashing in suspicion.
He cast her an innocent stare.

Scowling, she went back to slaying the trees with her glower.

He shook his head wryly. It must be the drugged air from so many flowers in the castle responsible for him uttering that provocative nonsense.

Liza’s Review:

This is an amazing, yet complex story of never-ending intrigue.
It is a warring, sensual, loving, constantly surprising, and often complicated story. I suppose that is to be expected when creatures of various sorts end up on earth or grab humans and take them to other realms.  What sort of demons and such you ask? Well there is a long list at the front of the book, so you will be prepared...Only I tell you now, that it still will not prepare you for all that occurs in this book. This is an incredible, beautifully written book of dangers far beyond your expectation.

The main characters are Týr and Kira, but the mass of other characters are equally interesting. The quantity of Ancients, Demons, and Demonii plus many other creatures makes life a trial for all.

My only advice is to expect the unexpected.
I give this book 5 stars. Magnificent!

WARLEADER by Susan Grant

An interrogation of Susan Grant
Liza: Were you abducted by aliens? It’s been two years since you’ve published.

Is this your true story? Did you meet and fall in love with an alien? I’m pretty sure it’s about you. And if this is what you’ve been doing for two years, I commend you for your determination to write an authentic space story.

Susan: Heh. I wish! After Star Champion (was The Champion of Barésh) came out in May 2016 I wrote two space stories in that same world featuring alien street dogs for the Pets in Space anthologies that benefitted Hero-Dogs. (As a veteran that organization is very special to me). I’d also started working on the next book in the Star Series, but my heart wasn’t really in it. I felt bored. And if I was bored, the reader would be bored too. I work full time as an airline pilot so I just concentrated on that while I did some literary soul searching. MEANWHILE...I’d been trying hard for five years to get the rights back to my Borderlands Series, its prequel series Otherworldly Men, and also The Last Warrior, book one in the fantasy/sci-fi romance Lost Colony series that I’d always wanted to complete. Then suddenly, no notice, late last spring I got the rights back to all 7 of the books!! Woo hoo! I put aside the Star book that wasn’t coming and immediately got to work updating and revising these books for their re-release. I couldn’t be happier. These are the books of my heart, especially Warleader (based on Moonstruck) and I think it shows. I LOVE this world and am so excited to be back playing in it after so many years. So, no, I haven’t been abducted by aliens (unless my imagination counts) just BUSY, and I hope readers love the results!

Liza: To be honest, I fell in love with Finn as well. However, I did so in two days...not two years!

Susan: Finn is easy to love! What a great guy. He’s in touch with his emotions, he actually LIKES to communicate, he’s good with his...gun, and he’s one HOT space pirate. What’s not to love?

Liza: Please tell me you fell in love with Finn on day one and it just got better and betterer.

Susan: I’ve been in love with Finn since he showed up back in 2005. How awesome for all of us that we can now have more of him. :)

Liza: This would make a great movie!

Susan: Ha. Please tell this to Hollywood, Liza! Actually, I envisioned Angelina Jolie as Brit. She can do the steely exterior really well. And, ah, no, Brit DESPISES Finn. Rather, she thinks she does. She can’t fool us.

Liza: But even she, over time, fell in love with him.

Susan: Aw. Yeah. Brit’s had a lot of crap happen in her life. So much pain. She deserves Finn.

Liza: Seriously, there better be a movie forthcoming or people are going to riot!

Susan: Ha. Yes, yes! Do you have any Hollywood connections? I don’t.

Liza: Me either, but nor do we really don’t need a riot. Earth has more than its share of troubles. So ANYONE WITH CONNECTIONS TO MOVIE MOGULS: CHECK OUT THIS BOOK!

Susan: There is truth in your claim that Earth has more than its share of troubles. This is why we love to read good books. E-s-c-a-p-e.

Liza: Back to the book: I noticed no one liked Finn at first.

Susan: Well, his crew did. They loved their “Boss”.

Liza: Let’s be frank...NO HUMAN liked him at first.

Susan: Technically, they’re all extraterrestrial HUMANS, but you’re right that no one on the Coalition side of things was too enthusiastic about serving with Drakken people. The Drakken racked up atrocities and war crimes for centuries in their long war with the Coalition, and there was still bad blood between the two sides. But peace has been declared and now they all have to play nice. That’s easy to say, not so easy to do. (another reason I LOVE writing this series).

Liza: And he tries hard to be a good team member. Yes, he used to be a pirate...but hey, pirates are people too!

Susan: Finn always had a good moral compass. Still, he spends a lot of time in Warleader trying to convince others he’s not a monster, all because he fought for the bad guys in the war. But he’s unapologetic about his years as a space pirate. I love that about him.

Liza: Yet he reformed when the war supposedly ended (It is kind of hard to end a space war, what with the massive distance between planets and all. Some planets might not get the news.)

Susan: A sloppy finish does complicate things—Another reason why I love writing the Borderlands series! A peace treaty is only as good as the people who try to abide by it. And lots of people in this series have their reasons to not behave. Which makes the job of the crew of the Unity that much harder.

Liza: And then there are bad seeds that don’t want the war to end.

Susan: Oh yes. My bad seeds. Bad, bad.

Liza: Why anyone wants war over have a pleasant day baffles me.

Susan: Yeah, tell me about it. But they all think they have good reasons for wanting to finish the fight. For one, a lot of Coalition folks don’t trust Drakken. They’ve been the enemy for generations. So they feel that the new Triad government is making a mistake by trying to blend Drakken and Coalition together, or even treating Drakken as equals. Not that there aren’t plenty of Drakken who are hungry to return to power. Warleader touches on that a bit but we’ll see more a lot more of the dark side in the next book, Hunting the Warlord’s Daughter that comes out in January.

Liza: I was suprized, but all in all, I liked Finn’s crew much more than some of Brit's choices—like her #3 guy- What a Weasel!

Susan: SUCH a weasel. (But shush, this is spoiler territory!)

Liza: That fellow pissed me off so much I’ve blocked his name. It started with a Y,

Susan: YAREW. Your fav. :)

Liza: No I wish his name to remain blocked. Honestly, if I had been the commander, I would have tossed him from the ship.

Susan: Me too. Out the airlock. With a lightball stuck in his mouth.

Liza: I have to say the book you’ve written is fabulous.

Susan: YESSSSS. Thank you so so much, Liza!!

Liza: And I appreciate you actually going into space and falling in love with a hunky alien, so we can all have the pleasure of reading what the two of you did.
And if you want, I’ll call you Brit for now on.

Susan: If you want the truth, I’m more Hadley than Brit. Much more. However, I aspire to being bad ass (but never seem to be able to pull it off). So I will continue to live vicariously through Admiral Brit Bandar, who is as bad ass as they come!

Thanks a bunch for having me as a guest in your world, Liza!

Liza: Nonsense, it was my honor to have you over.

Excerpt
The Scourge of the Borderlands in the flesh. It was unfortunate that their first meeting would be without him in a cage—where he would have been if up to Brit.

His Drakken attire and adornments fluttered, tinkled, and clanked in contrast to the clean and silent black uniforms of his escorts. He was formidable in build—lean, powerful, broad-shouldered. His nose had a small hump where it had probably been broken at some point. Otherwise, he seemed clean featured, even handsome in a raw, compelling way.

Good looks, wasted on a barbarian. Like most Drakken, his clothing revealed a good bit of skin. His tattooed flesh wasn’t filthy or sweaty—as she was used to from his kind—but golden and smooth, although his uniform—if one could call it that—was faded and had quite obviously been mended by hand in several places. Brit couldn’t imagine life without self-repairing fabric. Thankfully, his clothing carried only a whiff of the smoky-sweet scent she would forever associate with his kind—but it was enough to turn her stomach.

The Drakken came to attention, bringing the knuckles of his right hand to his forehead. “Warleader Finnar Rorkken reporting as ordered, sir.”

Zaafran answered with a fist over his chest. “How was your journey?”

“Long, sir.”

“And the in-briefing?”

“Also long.”

Zaafran chuckled. “I’ll pass along kudos to Star-Lieutenant Joss for a job well done. Come, I want to introduce you to your new commanding officer.”

Brit stood at ease but maintained impeccable posture as both men turned in her direction. Rorkken slowed, as if noticing her for the first time. His eyes crinkled at the edges as they narrowed—warm, thickly lashed brown eyes under a pair of neat, dark brows that drew together in boyish inquisitiveness.

Her breath caught. Seff. He looked like Seff.

Brit’s heart convulsed like a wounded animal, her mouth drying. How could this be? The Drakken resembled her long-dead husband, but older—the love of her life, lost so long ago that she could hardly remember his face, the feel of his arms, the sound of his voice. Yet now he was here, in the very form of the monsters who’d taken him from her.

Liza's Review
Review of Warleader by Susan Grant
Filled with multiple planet and space dangers, mistrust, and sexual trysts, I was glued to the book for the two days it took me to read it. Wow! I can’t remember having more fun in space.

Brit Bander is the Coalition’s finest starship commander. Only now she’s given the first ever: Triad Mission. Drakkens, Coalition Soldiers, and Earth Soldier have established a treaty to end the war. Future space efforts will be to bring all the stragglers into the fold.

The highest ranked Drakken, Brit’s #2 officer, Finn Rorkken is committed to peace, only some people do not trust his kind while others do not wish the war to end in peace with the three groups becoming one. The latter group will do major harm if not discovered and stopped.

This a book you cannot put down.

Scavenger Vanishes by Liza O'Connor

Scavenger Vanishes

By

Liza O’Connor

While the food at the General’s table is more expensive and cooked by the best chef at the fort, Alisha hates it all the same. There are no peaceful moments at the General’s table. Powell is always yelling at someone or slamming his fist upon the table causing wine glasses to leap into a salute and then fall over.

Alisha much prefers a Philly cheese steak served to the masses of hungry soldiers in the mess hall. It tastes delightful, and the company is far more fun. She misses the camaraderie and often wishes to be a captain again. Being a colonel hasn’t been any fun at all!

Scavenger Vanishes

Blurb

Stationed on opposite coasts, Alisha and Logan must each face their own demons and challenges. On the West Coast, Alisha loses her rank for butting heads with General Powell and soon discovers the life of a private can be utter hell. On the East Coast, newly promoted General Logan discovers his soldiers do not recognize his authority to command. In an effort to retake control of the East Coast Corps, Logan authorizes unthinkable actions. When Alisha faces a life-threatening crisis, will Logan rise above his own troubles, or will she discover love and rescue with her best friend Jack?

EXCERPT

As Jack and Alisha left the mess hall and walked toward the assembly hall, he spoke softly, “Alisha, take my advice and don’t push the general any further.”

“I had no choice.”

“You do have a choice,” Jack asserted. “And he’s very close to cutting you down to a buck private.”

Alisha shrugged. At least then she would enjoy some good company at lunch. “Is he still planning to hand out all those demerits?”

“He is,” Jack replied. “And he expects you to stand up on the stage beside him, providing your silent support.”

“Well, he’s delusional,” Alisha replied and stormed into the assembly room to search out the general.

Powell was already on the stage with his lists of demerits. Alisha ignored his angry demand as to where she had been for the last three hours. “Sir, if you insist on giving the soldiers demerits, which are in my opinion fully unwarranted, then I am left with no choice but to insist, as their co-field commander during the battle last night, all demerits be leveled against myself.”

“Alisha, we’ve already had this discussion,” the general warned.

“Yes, sir, but I must do what I can to limit the demoralizing effect your actions will have. These men clearly do not deserve demerits. According to Reg 6.98, it is my obligation as their commanding officer to take responsibility for their actions while under my command. The footnotes to this reg state that ‘taking responsibility’ can encompass the transfer of disciplinary punishments.”

“Alisha, that reg is used by generals to punish bad captains…”

“That may be your use for it, but I checked with MAC. Any demerits you give these men today will go to me. There’s nothing you can do to stop it,” Alisha assured him.

The general glared over her shoulder at Jack. “I suppose you put her up to this?”

“He did not!” Alisha snapped. “Jack and I have not discussed Reg 6.98. In fact, Jack’s advice was for me to fall in line and support you.”

“Which you’re clearly not planning to do.”

“No, sir,” Alisha admitted.

“Well then, get off my stage,” he snapped.

“Gladly, sir,” she replied and joined the ranks of Ryders gathering for the debriefing.
