KG Stutts presents Amethyst Chronicles

How far would you go to get back what you lost?
The second installment in KG Stutts’s Amethyst Chronicles is now available! FOR 99 CENTS!

Crocus Poison

by

KG Stutts

Ember Wilson lost it all when she lost her Amethyst transformation. Her abilities, her team, and her self-confidence seemed to vanish with her purple eyes. She has to find out who she is when she's not Amethyst. Her internal conflict will tear at those who care the most.

Through her soul searching, she pushes everyone away. She's afraid to accept herself, let alone the love of the men who desire her. When a lead to resolving her situation is presented, she will risk everything to follow it. In the end, is Amethyst worth risking her heart?

She gripped the staff with both hands, moving to strike Lewis’s wrists. At the last second, she flipped it up and struck him on the side of his head. Lewis stumbled back, cursing and sputtering. She didn’t give him any time to recover before moving in. But he was ready for her tactics. The end of his weapon hit her mouth, busting her lip open, before swinging down and hitting the back of her knees. Ember fell on the mat, the air rushing out of her body as her staff fell out of her hands and rolled away. Lewis stood over her with his staff pointed at her face.

“And that’s three,” he said.

She looked up at him, breathing heavily. Her head pounded and sweat rolled down her face. She touched her lip and frowned at the red droplets of blood on her fingertips.

“So it is.”
“Are you okay?”

She nodded. He tossed the staff aside and extended his hand, moving so she could get up. He gently touched her chin and frowned.

“I didn’t mean to bust you open.”
“It’s a tiny cut.”
“Looks pretty deep to me.”
“Only because you’re used to me healing already.”
“It’s going to take a while to get used to you not being -” He stopped, sucking in a sharp breath as she raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms over her chest.
“Me not being what? Finish your sentence.”
He rubbed the back of his neck. “I can’t.”
“Finish your sentence,” she ordered.
“Not being purple,” he said, letting out a haggard breath.

She smacked his hand away and walked toward her clothes.
“Come on, Wilson. You know I’m sorry.”

She snorted as she pulled on her pants. “Of course you are. Everyone is. The doctor is sorry he didn’t catch the croceus poison before it nearly cost me my life. The nurse is sorry she aided in the blood transfusion. My father is sorry I can’t rejoin my military commission. Commander Stewart is sorry he can’t recreate the procedure. Liam is sorry he can’t understand what I’m going through.” She spun around, fire raging in her eyes. “And I’m sorry I let myself wallow in misery. But I’m not sorry anymore. Now I’m just angry!”

She stormed out of the training room, leaving her shirt on the floor and Lewis alone with his jaw hanging open. She brushed past the people in the hallway, not caring about the gawking looks she got for walking away in her bra.

KG Stutts shares the five team of the Genesis Project & gives first cover reveal of Croceus Poison, Amethyst Chronicles

When it came down to writing for the Amethyst Chronicles, a lot of care went into the details. In the first book, I reference the other teams that took part of the Genesis Project. One day I might tell their stories. The five teams are Vinidus, Luteus, Caeruleus, Aureus, and, of course, Amethyst. I took a lot of care and research into naming the teams and their functions far behind the simple paragraph devoted to the four other teams in the first installment.

Aureus are a special team of pilots characterized by their bright yellow eyes. Aureus actually means golden. The Romans actually used aureus coins as currency, although it was very infrequently used because of its weight. One thousand years into the future, however, the Aureus team would be the one you would want in a space battle. Their leader is Lance Daniels, a former military commander with an ax to grind.

The emerald green-eyed team, Vinidus, is weapons specialists. Led by Jacob Conner, a childhood friend of Ember Wilson, they test new weapons and come up with modifications. Even though the emerald crystal is often used to aid in healing, it can also be focused to enhance mental acuity and strengthens memory. In Latin, the word is actually viridis, but I liked the spelling of vinidus better.

Mark Hopkins leads the pumpkin-eyed Luteus team of sharpshooters. Their orange eyes enhance their ability to see their targets even in the darkest and extreme circumstances.

The fourth group is the Caeruleus team. They are the teal-eyed information specialists. In Latin, caeruleus means blue. I took the liberty of making them teal since blue is a fairly common eye color.
They have a knack for getting even the most secured of secrets from systems or people without anyone knowing.

And last, but certainly not least is Amethyst. Purple is my favorite color so it was a natural choice for me. The Latin word for purple is purpureus but that just wasn't going to work.
Imagine Purpureus Chronicles. Doesn't quite roll off the tongue, does it? One of the things that drew me to amethyst was the crystals. I own several pieces of amethyst jewelry, (shocking, I know) and have been fascinated by the properties the stone is thought to process. Amethyst crystals are used to amplify various things used in Eastern healing. It is also thought that it could help quiet the mind in meditation and the Greeks believed amethyst would prevent you from being drunk.

The term violet flame caught my eye as I was doing my research. Violet flame refers to a spiritual fire, like the burning bush that spoke to Moses. It is thought that violet flame could transform negative karma and restore the flow of light to and energy to the mind, body, and soul. In this, the true powers of the Amethyst team came to be. The procedure Ember, Lewis, Nova, and Morris endured enhanced their natural abilities. Speed, strength, stamina, agility, endurance, mental acuity, and added quick healing and regeneration. The amethyst actually transformed every cell in their body to work in harmony, in unison, to better them.

That's a lot coming from a crystal or gemstone most would say was just 'pretty'.

Amethyst Chronicles: Croceus Poison launches May 22nd. And you are the first to see the cover!

Liza has KG Stutts look into the future & tell us what she's got coming

I've invited KG Stutts over to tell us about her upcoming book.

KG: I am a little over a month left before the second installment in my Amethyst Chronicles sci-fi romance series launches. Anyone who is familiar with Winter's Kiss should expect some major changes this time around.

Keeping with the April Fools for Love theme, we've got Ember Wilson, the tough, kick-butt leader of Amethyst, Michael Lewis, her second-in-command, and Major Liam Ross, the charismatic military leader. The second book in the series will find Ember in a love triangle of sorts. Talk about fools. Two handsome, sexy men wanting to be with you, and you shut yourself off to the world.
That's Ember solution. To be fair, it's not entirely her fault. The end of Winter's Kiss did put her through the paces. But she is emotionally closed off. She refuses to say the word love, even if it is regarding breakfast food. So how does one try to win the heart of this beautiful woman with a chip on her shoulder? Why, with weapons of course! At least that's Lewis's plan. Being there when she wakes up from the hospital is Liam's way.

Who will ultimately win? You'll have to wait a while for the answer. This installment is full of new aliens, challenges, and strife. I was able to peel back the curtain a bit to get a deeper look into who the characters are. Morris and Nova really shine brightly in this book and are sure to be new fan favorites. Seeing Ember grow and change is really fulfilling and the end will shock you, setting up for the next two books.

Cover will be revealed soon! And here’s a special treat: a sneak peak!

She recognized the staff from the training they underwent after the Genesis Project. A Keifler Stick, named after its creator, emitted an energy pulse when it connected with human tissue. A normal person would be rendered unconscious by the outburst of energy. For Amethyst, it felt like a tickle. It would take many shots to knock one of them out.  She tapped the end of her stick twice and it glowed a dim purple before it grew brighter and crackled.

“Ah, so you remember.”

She held up the lit end close to her face, feeling the energy flow from it as the hair on the back of her neck stood on end. They locked eyes as they set the sticks down and undressed down to their underwear. They always wore as little clothing as possible when they trained with the Keifler weapons.

“All right, rules,” Lewis began. “Game is over after three hits.”

“Only three?”

“This is a trial, Wilson. I’m not trying to knock you out.”

She glared. “Fine.”

“I’m letting you off easy in your fragile state. And because I’m such a nice guy, I won’t activate my staff.”

Ember pressed her lips into a thin line. “Fragile state?”

“You know.” He grinned. “Your weakened physique.”

She slashed the end of her lighted staff against his midsection. He blocked the blow, turning to bring his weapon down on her right shoulder. She moved out of the way, bringing the tip of her stick to his lower back. Lewis groaned as the purple light sparked against his skin.

“Not bad for a weakened woman.”

“No.” Lewis gritted his teeth. “Not bad at all.”

They separated, giving each other distance. Ember dropped into a defensive stance with her left arm bent level to her chest, her feet shoulder width apart, and her right arm straight out holding the staff. They circled each other, their eyes locked.
She twirled the staff before swiping at his chest. Lewis knocked her weapon away, striking her on the left shoulder before she could move.

“Gah!” Sharp pain reverberated through her arm. She winced and tried to rotate it. Her heart raced against her chest.

Lewis smiled. “Got to be more careful.”

“That’s one,” she said.

“Yep, we’re even.”

She gripped the staff with both hands, moving to strike his wrists. At the last second, she flipped it up and struck him on the side of his head. Lewis stumbled back, cursing and sputtering. She didn’t give him any time before moving in. But he was ready for her tactics. The end of his weapon hit her mouth, busting her lip open, before swinging down and hitting the back of her knees. Liza reviews Winter's Kiss, Amethyst Chronicles, by KG Stutts

Today, I'm reviewing a fabulous Sci-Fi with romance.

Winter's Kiss

Amethyst Chronicles
by KG Stutts

Amethyst is a secret team of genetically enhanced humans which is Earth’s greatest defensive weapon. Leading the team of super soldiers is Ember Wilson, a tough woman with a huge chip on her shoulder. The team gets their name from the after effect of the Genesis Project which turned their eyes and even their blood purple.

For decades, Earth has been ravaged by unpredictable weather which began to cause crops to fail. Most of the planet’s food sources have deteriorated. Dr. Clayton Rudo has proclaimed he has the means to save the soil. He has created a weather machine to regulate and help replenish. But Ember knew the truth. He didn’t want to save the planet. He wanted to control it. Amethyst destroyed the machine, but was placed in stasis. Two years later, Rudo recreated the device and has frozen Washington, DC and the west coast of the United States.

General Tom Blanchard brought Amethyst out of stasis to work with an elite Air Force team, led by Major Liam Ross. Tensions between Ember and Liam rise as they butt heads. Can they work together before Earth is completely under ice?

The story grabs you from the first and never lets you go.  I have to be careful about sharing my feelings because I don’t want to ruin all the surprises.

The story grabs you from the first and never lets you go. Let me just say, the story is very well written, there are surprises from the very first, and they just keep coming and lots of action that will have you on the edge of your chair.

The evil guy may have pretended to be a well-meaning scientist, but he is super bad and most formidable. You’ll love the kick ass strong heroine who leads the squad that will save the world and when she likes a guy, she doesn’t hide her feelings. I enjoyed the romantic moments. She has serious issues with her father—you’ll understand when you read the book.

One big warning, however: this fabulous story comes with very steep cliff hanger. I prefer a gentler stop.   Due to the mental disturbances I endured when the story ended so abruptly, I’m deducting a half a point and give it 4.5, which I’m rounding up because it’s such a fabulous story.

Rest assured, I will be reading the next book!

Liza O'Connor interviews Ember from Winter's Kiss by KG Stutts

Liza: Today, we sit down with Ember Wilson, the leader of a team known as Amethyst. Ember, thank you for joining us. I'm going to do my best to behave, because she's got a big gun with her.

Ember: Thank you for having me.

Liza: All right, let’s get started. You have a very unique look to you.

Ember: Do you mean my purple eyes?

Liza: For starters

Ember: I love my eyes.

Liza: How did your eyes become purple?

Ember: I assumed you had done your research on me. Isn’t that why we’re here?

Liza: *clears throat* Um, yes. I have a little information on you. You were in the Air Force before joining a special project. I don’t have much more information than that.

Ember: No, you wouldn’t. No one does.

Liza: Are you still with the Air Force or are you a member of the Intergalactic Security Commission?

Ember: We are classified under the ISC, but Commander Emmitt Stewart knows he couldn’t control us if we go against his orders.

Liza shifts uncomfortably in her chair: I see.

Ember: The thing you have to understand is this: We don’t work well with others.

Liza: Does that include a certain Air Force Major?

Ember: You mean, Liam Ross? It sure does.

Liza: I’ve met Major Ross before. He’s really handsome.

Ember: It takes more than a handsome face to turn my head.

Liza: And what would it take?

Ember: I am a strong, powerful woman. I would need a man tough enough to handle me. Quite frankly, I don’t think he exists.

Liza: You have a close bond with Michael Lewis

Ember: I’m close with all three men in Amethyst. We have a special bond.

Liza: Are you as close to your father and sister as you are to them?

Ember *narrows her eyes*: Amethyst is the only family I need.

Liza: What do you love?

Ember: I never use that word.

Liza: Love?

Ember: Yes. That word has too much power behind it. I would never give anyone that much authority over me.

Liza *quickly changes the subject*: Do you have any fears?

Ember: Do you have anything other than dumb questions?

Liza: Um… probably not. Their my forte.

Ember: Then I’m going to leave before you waste anymore of my precious time.

Liza: Let's check out the book. (I think I would have been happier if I had interviewed it.)

Winter's Kiss

Amethyst Chronicles

He wanted to control it. Amethyst destroyed the machine, but was placed in stasis. Two years later, Rudo recreated the device and has frozen Washington, DC and the west coast of the United States.

General Tom Blanchard brought Amethyst out of stasis to work with an elite Air Force team, led by Major Liam Ross. Tensions between Ember and Liam rise as they butt heads. Can they work together before Earth is completely under ice?

General Blanchard pulled a large painting of him and his daughter, Laura, from a wall and revealed a security key pad. He punched in a security code and motioned Ross over. A portion of the wall gave way to reveal a secret room. The room looked like a lab with white walls, a gray marble floor, and various computers and equipment he didn't recognize. Against the back wall were four pods with people asleep in stasis.

The General stood in front of the first pod, stroking his unkempt bearded chin. The sleeping man had extremely short black hair and was the shortest and skinniest of the four in the tubes. As they approached, a holographic image appeared on the glass next to the man’s face. The picture was of a smiling man with wire-rimmed glasses on his thin nose, brown eyes, and longer hair.

"This is Bryan Morris," the General introduced. "Best tech man I've ever seen. Smart, quick on his feet, and crafty."
Liam looked at the General curiously, but he didn't elaborate further. Blanchard moved down to the next pod. The man inside was slightly taller than Morris and had curly red hair. The holographic picture displayed another smiling man with light blue eyes and hair sticking out everywhere.
"Alexander Nova. He was the best pilot Earth had to offer. And this," the General pointed to the third tube, "is Michael Lewis. Brilliant military mind. He was second-in-command."
Ross wrinkled up his nose as he gazed upon the strong specimen of a man. Lewis was tall and clearly well-built with brown hair that stopped just above his eyebrows. The image displayed was of a serious man with brown eyes.
"Command?" Ross questioned, but the General didn't address it.
He moved down to the last pod which had a woman in it. Ross looked at the tall woman with jet black hair who was somehow scowling even though she was asleep. The picture showed a strikingly beautiful blonde woman with blue eyes.
"Ember Wilson," General Blanchard softly said. "She's the leader of this team known as
Amethyst."
His voice pulled Liam’s attention away from her. "Amethyst, sir?"
"A group of genetically enhanced super soldiers. They were Earth's greatest defense."
"I've never heard of Amethyst."
"Nor would you. The gene program was top secret. They were named after a side effect of the genetic manipulation causing the quartet's eye color to change to a brilliant shade of dark purple."
"Gene program? Purple eyes? Sir, this is a little unbelievable."
"They had it all," General Blanchard continued, still not answering the Major's questions.
"Super strength, speed, endurance, skill, stamina, healing, and intelligence. They could withstand several kill blaster shots before they even felt a twinge to their central nervous system. Their natural talents increased tenfold."
Liam let out a low whistle. "What happened? What led them here?"
"You remember two years ago when the weather computer designed by Dr. Clayton Rudo was destroyed?"
Liam nodded. Of course he remembered. Rudo was proclaimed a hero when he introduced a super computer that could control Earth's climate.
"Ember came to me and said Rudo had plans to control Earth, but I didn't believe her. As a result, Amethyst attacked Rudo’s lab in Abilene and destroyed the system.”
They were the ones behind the assault? Sir, I helped designed the security protocol for
Dr. Rudo’s base myself.”
“I’m aware, Major. I haven’t met a security platform which Amethyst couldn’t disable.
Because of their actions, they were on trial for treason and convicted. Due to the team's enhanced abilities, it was decreed they would remain in stasis until they could be rehabilitated."
"But we later found out she was right."
"Yes. Of course it would take us two years to realize. It took, but Rudo rebuilt his machine. I even assigned several top scientists to help speed the process along after Amethyst thoroughly destroyed all of his work. And now ..."
And now Rudo used his weather system to bring the world to its knees. Washington, D.C., New Mexico, and Texas were now completely under ice. Everything was frozen solid.
