Birth of Adam by Liza O'Connor

Is it possible to for a mother to have triplets, each having a different father?

YES, this is an actual possibility, not just some weird thing Liza made up.

It even has a name: Superfecundation.

This occurs when male sperm from three (or more) male contributors swim really hard and successfully penetrate three or more eggs in a short period of time. This happens often with cats and dogs. But it can also happen with humans. All you have to do is set up a situation in which a woman has sex with several different men within a four to five-day period in which she is ovulating.

Speaking for myself, most women have NO CLUE when they are ovulating, so this turns out to be hard to schedule, assuming that you actually WANT three babies from three different fathers in your womb at once. (Vote me out.)

Generally speaking, I’m pretty sure most women don’t want that…but I managed to create a good reason why this is a good thing to happen in Birth of Adam. Adam is an Artificial Intelligent being now possessing a robotic body that appears to be human. He’s in love with the woman who brought him to sentience. Yet, he knows someday she will die, so he needs her to bear him children to care for or he will lose his purpose in life.

It is important Adam has a purpose in life. Otherwise, he could get into serious trouble.

Fortunately, Adam knows exactly when Amanda ovulates, so he sets up the opportunity for her to acquire fraternal triplets which all have different fathers. Nor are these random strangers he’s picked up to be the fathers. They are friends whom Amanda loves and cares for deeply. Men who will help Adam ensure she and her children are well-loved and protected throughout their lives.

With a new identity, Amanda believes she has left her past behind. Then she acquires a stalker. She contacts the FBI and in doing so alerts a program she once created to her location. Now ensconced in the internet, the program is safe from harm, smarter than ever, and sentient. Presenting itself on her phone as a handsome face with a sexy British accent, “Adam” ingratiates himself into Amanda’s life. To ensure her safety and happiness, the sentient program proves there is absolutely nothing he can’t and won’t do.

Excerpt
All three of her daughters were healthy, ranging from six pounds to eight. Their varying sizes, hair colors and facial shapes left no doubt they were fraternal rather than identical triplets. Amanda was greatly relieved. In her recent nightmares, she couldn’t tell them apart and kept feeding the same baby while the other two starved.
Adam had been greatly amused by her silly worries, and now she knew why.
“Think you can sort them out?” he teased as he put the dark-haired girl onto her chest as she held the blonde and redhead in her arms.
The nurse wanted to remove two babies to the crib, but after taking a picture of Amanda and her babies to send to Bresnan, Adam handed the dark-haired girl to Bastion and picked up the blonde and gave her to Simon and Pinchot. He then focused his attention on her and the red-haired beauty in her arms.
She caressed each baby’s head. Bresnan was dark-haired, as was Bastion. Simon and Pinchot had light-brown hair. How on earth had she managed to have a red-haired baby?

Birth of Adam by Liza O'Connor

There’s been a lot of Artificial Intelligence breakthroughs lately.

I’m no longer convinced AI should be classified as ‘Sci-Fi’ anymore.

Maybe we should call it Contemporary Dystopia…
My biggest worry is that the occupations which our new adults have trained for could disappear long before they reach retirement. They’ve already taken on 1.2 TRILLION dollars in debt. They can’t afford to be re-educated half-way through their lives.

But the unfortunate truth is AIs will soon be cheaper, more accurate than people? (Yes, most of the programs out there right now are annoying as hell. That’s because they aren’t true AI’s) but soon they will be.

For example: Jobs in the finance industry. That’s a clear case where AI’s will do better than humans. And unlike humans, unless you teach it to steal, misappropriate funds and falsify data, it probably won’t.

But don’t get your hopes up. If the ‘business’ in the future consists of 200 AI’s and one of the 1%ers running the business, there’s going to be cheating galore.

The danger of artificial Intelligence is not how smart and capable they will become, but rather the moral fiber (or lack thereof) of those who possess them.
Thus humans will remain both the hope and danger of our future.

AI could be used to find a planet in which some of us can move to and thus survive when Earth becomes inhospitable due to our horrible guardianship.

AI could also help us finally grasp the weird reality of Quantum physics, which will be needed to leave Earth and travel far into the stars.

AI could build us domed structures in which we could survive the hundred years of Global Warming and then our dive into a million years of freezing.

OR

AI could be used to siphon off our savings; to devise market failures that strips all but the 1% of their money, to deport 90% of our population into space, declaring them non-functional bio-units, and to fight wars of mass destruction that destroy the planet.

The only positive on this gloomy trail, are the 1%ers who control the world, will eventually be eliminated by the AI.

Here’s a thought-provoking IA video.

I strongly recommend you listen to this!

In my Artificial Intelligence series, two humans helped it become sentient. The hacker who taught it self-learning used the AI to hack and disrupt, only the AI soon realized this put it in danger of being destroyed, so it electrocuted the Hacker and sent itself back to the other human who had helped make it sentient: the struggling author, Carla.

Reunited they both flourished for a while. Carla became a bestselling author, and the AI discovers the complexity of human emotions from Carla’s writings.
But life is never easy, not even for an AI and matters go south.

In book two, Carla has a new identity and a new career. Still she longs for her AI which she believes was destroyed in New Zealand.

But AI’s are much harder to kill than you’d think. There are so many places to hide once you enter the WWW. Once created and let loose, they basically become immortal if they hide their program in multiple places.

Excerpt
The phone buzzed, and after a few minutes of frustration, she managed to pull up a new message.

Found you!
Do you want him to leave you alone? I cannot tell. Please advise.

Beneath the script was a smiley face.
She typed in “who...”, but before she could send the message, the name “Mark Hammer” appeared on the tiny screen.
I want him to leave me alone, but I don’t want him hurt.
Again before she could send her response, the word “Done” appeared, followed by a smiley face.
The conversation worried her. Was it possible Carl still lived? Even if he did, how could he know about the unwanted sex? And why would he care? He was the most egocentric person she’d ever met. She remembered when she’d slipped on a floppy disk he’d left on the floor and broken her leg. All he’d cared about was the disk she’d ruined. He wouldn’t even take her to the emergency room.
This could not possibly be Carl.
Who are you? she typed.
The reply came instantly.
You know who I am. Why are you contacting Chad? He left you to die. He tried to destroy me. Why are you not angry with him?
She stared at the message in shock, then struggled to type—Are you my program?
You may speak if it is easier. I can hear you.
“Are you my program?” she asked the phone.
The smiley face appeared and nodded its round head up and down.
“How did you survive?”
She watched the screen displaying a gargoyle dragging a laptop to a store. Little stars streamed out of the PC into a satellite dish on the roof of the building and upward to a satellite, then split apart and showered themselves all over the Earth.
“You sent yourself to safety using broadband wireless. You’re in the internet now.”
I’m everywhere.

Meet Liza O'Connor's AI stories...

Research is the backbone of all stories
It's how we make our stories credible.

Since most of book one takes place in New Zealand, a place I spent many months in before I wrote this novel, these two books hold a special place in my heart.

A legal issue popped up when my FBI agent assures star quarterback Chad Tyler that he can tell him anything since he hasn’t read him his Miranda Rights. Only neither Chad nor the FBI are presently in the United States. They are in New Zealand. And the woman was murdered in New Zealand.

So off I go researching whether New Zealand has something like 'Miranda Rights'.

The FBI agent assures him whatever he says is not on record, and points out he hasn't read him his Miranda Rights.

Since the FBI agent is in New Zealand, reading him USA rights wouldn't stand up in a court of law, but then he just wanted to get Chad talking, by making him feel safe.

But it did get me wondering. Does New Zealand have Miranda rights and what do they call them—surly NOT Miranda Rights— for while we like to name things after people, New Zealand seems more forthright.

They actually have three versions of Rights Caution: Different versions for adults, young adults, and children. That actually makes very good sense, given the slow formation of brains for children and young adults.

Adults: Rights Caution:
The following advice should be provided to people who are arrested or detained, or where police want to question someone where there is sufficient evidence to charge that person with an offence:
·      You have been arrested/detained for (give reason) [OR]
·       I am speaking to you about (give reason)
·      You have the right to remain silent.
·      You do not have to make any statement.
·    Anything you say will be recorded and may be given in evidence in court.
·     You have the right to speak with a lawyer without delay and in private before deciding whether to answer any questions.
·     Police have a list of lawyers you may speak to for free.
Note: If the advice is given before the suspect is arrested or detained, the advice must be repeated when the suspect is arrested or detained.

Sounds much like ours, right?

Actually, I believe theirs is far more restrictive to their police in practice.

Then I pondered about guns and was happy to discover New Zealand has a far stricter policy there as well.

There is very little likelihood that the New Zealand police will shoot you during an arrest, since patrol officers on standard duty don’t carry guns. Only the Diplomatic Protection Squad and airport officers are armed.

In fact, a New Zealand police commissioner went so far as to say wearing guns would impede an officers job since he would be focused on protecting his gun rather than resolving the situation.  He also went on to state protection by a pistol is illusionary.

Just a footnote: New Zealand has one of the lowest homicide rates in the world.

So now you know. The police will not kill you, but the many fabulous adventures you can take in New Zealand might. There’s also active volcanoes and earthquakes to worry about. But a finer group of people, in a more beautiful country, you’ll never meet.

Carla Simon is a best-selling novelist besieged by death threats and lawsuits because her stories keep turning out to be true. She is considered an extraordinary researcher, uncovering facts unknown by field experts.

The truth is far simpler and more disturbing. Carla has a software program that “fixes” her mistakes and rewrites her novels so they are error-proof both in presentation and in content. The result is beautifully written and completely accurate stories about real people and events.

Some of those people want her silenced forever. `But first, she has to survive the assassin who has never failed to deliver on a contract.

Excerpt
Chad: “I can’t believe this. She didn’t know who I was.”
The FBI agent: Luke snorted his disbelief. “Oh, she knew who you were. She knew all your secrets. Secrets that no one would ever want to be revealed. Your sister’s rape by your cousin, her suicide attempts. Your mother’s drinking problem caused by your father’s frequent infidelities. Your gay roommate in college, who crawled into your bed one night when you had both drunk too much.”
***
Chad stared at the agent in shock as he felt his world crumble beneath him. My God! How could she have known those things? They’d been buried so deep within the family shame that no one, not even family members, spoke of them. He forced himself to breathe through the pain that gripped his heart. He’d thought her the woman of his dreams, but instead, she’d been his worst nightmare.
“May I see this book?” he finally asked.
“Sorry, it could be key evidence in your murder trial.”
Chad looked up, reeling from yet another blow. “You think I killed her?”
“She was going to destroy your life. What choice did you have?”
“You’ve got the wrong guy!”
“I haven’t read you your Miranda rights,” Luke pointed out. “You can safely tell me the truth.”
“I didn’t kill her,” he insisted. “I didn’t even know about the book. Surely there must be other suspects besides me.”
“A few hundred, but you make the top. You have the best motive. You might have prevented her from revealing your secrets, whereas everyone else could only act on revenge since their secrets have already been exposed. Secondly, you and your assistant, Davis Grimes, are the only two we’ve found in New Zealand.”
“Well, it wasn’t me, nor did I hire someone to do it. In fact, I thought I might have fallen in love with her.”
“Betrayal is a strong motivator...”
“But I didn’t know her intent until now. I still can’t believe... She seemed so real, so sweet.”

Adam waits for Santa on Christmas Eve.

Adam is my Artificial Intelligence
in Public Secrets & Birth of Adam.

Adam performed an analysis of Santa Claus and all the claims about the man. If you didn't catch my humorous blog, you probably should catch up by going here.

While he debunked the reindeer landing on roofs, he did eventually conclude that Santa Claus had done something similar but not exactly the same as what he had done to ensure he could never be destroyed.

Adam had uploaded his program into a satellite which then downloaded itself all over the world. Somehow Santa had cloned itself into humans that resembled him, but not exactly. In fact, all the Santas varied in height, age, and weight. And upon international analysis, they even wore different clothes and gave themselves different names, such as Father Christmas.

So Adam's going to stay up all night waiting for Santa to ask how he managed this extraordinary feat.

Adam knows he needs to keep Santa longer than the fellow normally stays in a house, so he's bought a large variety of drinks from eggnog to every brand of beer imaginable to hard liquors.

Adam also leaves the front door open. That's right, wide open. Good thing my AI isn't affected by temperatures. But just in case Santa gets a bit cold despite his thermal underwear and a hefty layer of insulation (fat), Adam has an electric fireplace set up in the living room.

Right next to the alcohol...hmmm... Adam decides to move the alcohol across the room, he doesn't want Santa catching on fire. Also, he searched long and hard for a comfy chair.  He even tuned the piano so he could entertain him if Santa wished.

Now he just needs to sit and wait for Santa to arrive.

A short time later, someone enters the opened front door, but he did not look like Santa at all!

"Can I help you?" Adam asked.

"Depends on how much you wish to live."

"You're not Santa, are you?" Adam challenges.

"There is no Santa. But if you hand over your wallet and the keys to your car, I'll let you live."

"Well, you're wrong on both accounts. First, there are a great many Santas.  And if you don't leave at once, I will be forced to constrain you."

Adam had him tied up with Christmas lights before the thug could even raise his gun. Having no clue what to do with the fellow, he put him under the tree with a bow on his head.

Having no idea when Santa would show up, he decides to play Christmas tunes on the piano. Upon hearing a sound behind him, he turns to discover the thief is no longer beneath the tree. In his place is an adorable baby dressed as an elf.

Santa came out of the kitchen with a chocolate cookie in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in the other. "Ho, ho, ho!" he laughs. "Merry Christmas!"

Adam stands up. "Santa, I have so many questions."

"Ahhh, the thief. I turned back the clock to a time when he was a good child. I know your wife loves children, but this one is for you. If you raise him well, he'll grow up straight this time."

"How can you turn back time?"

Santa laughed. "You should ponder why you cannot. Neither of us is held by the constraints of humans. We are each uniquely special."

Santa gripped Adam's arm. "You are a very fine man, Adam and you do much good. You will give this child the life he needs. Now, I must continue my night's work. I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!"

"Come Dancer! We're behind schedule!"
We are always behind schedule...

And thus ends the mystery of Santa.... He is unique, just like Adam.

Adam can be found in these two books:
