Aurora Springer shares The Secret Supers and more!

The Secret Supers Series
College age Superheroes, Super Animals, Mystery and Romance with a Comic Twist

I’m giving you a unique excerpt from Super Starrella to celebrate the super new book covers designed by Danielle Fine.

Super Starrella, Book 1 in Secret Supers Series
Teen superhero, Starrella, and her flying horse combat vicious killers in the skies of Atalanta.
The quiet summer before her freshman year turns frighteningly weird after Estelle Wright trespasses onto an Army base. Blown into the air and knocked unconscious, she wakes with a nascent superpower. Not to mention a winged horse with a snarky attitude and a mind of her own.
Back home in Atalanta, a serial killer is targeting the students at Goldman University. Before long she must juggle college classes with sneaking out of the house after dark to battle alien monsters. Estelle’s life is in danger, but who can she trust: handsome Mark Copper from military intelligence, or hunky Toby, the tough gangster with a motorbike? Both men have secret agendas, but falling in love is not in their plans.
Young adult superheroes, quirky animal sidekicks, and a dash of romance enliven this thrilling adventure. Book 1 of the Secret Supers.

Excerpt from Super Starrella – during the student party after Estelle turns eighteen

“Hey, Toby,” Estelle said, “dance with me.” Stepping closer, she stood on tiptoes and whispered in his ear, “You can tell me what’s going on.”

His mouth angled in a smile. “Can’t refuse a cute babe.” Placing the beer bottle on the windowsill, he offered his hand to Estelle.

Catching his hand, Estelle tugged him toward the dancers. His arm slid around her waist and she leaned against him with a sigh of happiness. Maneuvering around the dancing couples, he steered her away from his cronies. “Don’t expect much of a dance,” he warned.

“I didn’t expect to see you here.”

Easing into a gap, he spun her into the dance. In spite of his brawny build, his steps were lively. Estelle was amused at the contrast of Toby’s energy with the stiffness of her previous partner.

Toby didn’t speak again until they had reached the opposite side of the room next to the stage. Pulling her close and bending to her ear, he said, “You’re right.” His quiet voice was barely audible over the clash of the drum beats. “We’re expecting an attack tonight.”

“No problem, I’m ready. Tell me where to go.”

Pausing near the stage door, he hissed, “Problem is, we don’t know where.”

“It’s still early,” she murmured, stroking her fingers over his cat tattoo.

The music halted and the announcer called, “Last dance before our break. A slow dance to put you in the mood for romance.”

Rolling his eyes to the ceiling in disgust, Toby groaned, “Plod on mister obvious.”

The sweet tune washed over the dance floor and couples embraced.

“Well?” Estelle said, smiling at Toby’s surly expression. “One slow dance before the fight.”

“Shouldn’t. Not with a team mate.”

She jutted her chin and retorted, “I’m not one of your Jag gang. And today’s my birthday.”

“You’re eighteen? Owe you a gift.” He brushed his fingers through her hair, and breathed, “Star.” Tingling in anticipation, she slipped her hands around his neck. His face lowered toward her. Estelle tilted her head up and closed her eyes. Their lips met in a warm kiss. Her pulse throbbing, she pressed against him and his arms tightened around her waist. She wished their kiss would last forever.

Crash!

Window glass shattered to the floor.

Screams cut across the dance hall and the band stopped playing.

Pushing her away, Toby twisted toward the source of trouble. A new monster was climbing into the room through the cracked window. Its head bore scythe-like jaws and waving antenna while many crooked legs propelled its long body.

“A monster centipede!” Estelle gasped, recalling her biology lessons.

Wriggling its long body over the windowsill, its curved pincers snapped, emitting an acrid stench. It reared on its back legs and its head swayed back and forth in search of a victim. The giant centipede darted at the nearest person, the stupefied band leader.

Yelling, “Geronimo!” he smashed his guitar on the monster’s head and ducked behind the stage.

Toby grabbed Estelle’s arm and shoved her through the stage door into the corridor. “Switch to Super!” he hissed.
