Shane: Marshal of Tallav and Maon: Marshal of Tallav were rereleased with new covers May16, 2018. It’s always a challenge to make your cover say all the things in what could be a single quick glance that you want it to say. In the case of these two books that included the title, author, that it is a series, and that is a sizzling, action-filled sci-fi romance. If you believe these covers do that for you, let me know. Cailin Briste Shares Her New Release: How to Steal the Pharaoh’s Jewels

I’m thrilled to back in the Multiverse to share about my new release: How to Steal the Pharaoh’s Jewels: A Thief in Love Suspense Romance, Book #2.

What can I say? All my heroes and many of my heroines get physically hurt in my books. The list of things I’ve done to characters includes: poisoning, rape (man by a woman), being shot at, being shot, attempted rape, and falling from a great height after being shot. In Cade I came up with two more ways to put my characters in danger. The first happens at the very beginning of the story. The second would be a spoiler, so you’ll have to buy the book and read it to discover what else I do to Cade and Bassinae.

Here’s a bit about Cade’s encounter with a dump truck from the first chapter of How to Steal the Pharaoh’s Jewels.

With a grunt of approval, Cade noted the route change had worked. The road ahead was less congested, so he relaxed back into his seat and picked up speed. A parking garage lined the left side of the street with office buildings on the right. He checked the time and glanced in the rear-view mirror. “Want some music?”

At that moment a large dump truck came barreling out of an exit of the parking garage. Cade swung right and hit the brakes hard, hoping to lessen the inevitable impact, but even with the protection devices built into the vehicle this would be a brutal collision. Safety foam inundated the foot wells of the car, and the air ballasts deployed. The scree of metal and the splintering of the car’s plastic shell, filled Cade’s ears along with a sound like the roaring thunder of thousands of wild animals stampeding toward him. One thought struck him. No pain. And then the world winked out.

The next he knew, someone was shouting his name and agony radiated from his pelvis. The gray airbags that held him in place deflated while before him the mangled remains of the windshield gave him a partially obstructed view of the front end of the dump truck, an irresistible force that even Gerald St. Croix couldn’t have stopped. The left side of the car was crushed and had been pushed into the passenger side. Cade had been displaced two-and-a-half feet to his right.

A voice sounded behind him. “Cade. We’re going to get you out of there. Hang on. They’ll have to cut you out.”

How to steal the Pharaoh’s Jewels

This is an intriguing story that comingles making matters right with taking back your life.

All too often, women become prisoners in abused relationships. This happened to Bassine when she was young. Fortunately, she escaped her abuser and established a self-defense and help center for abused women called DO IT NOW. She is also an employee of Sebastian's, who steals items from other thieves.  Still, there was something missing in her life.

When Cade almost dies in an inexplicable ‘accident’ Bassine takes care of him. Then when she gets injured, and Cade attempts to protect her by staying away from her, Bassine finally confronts the truth that she loves Cade, and she is finally ready to love again.

There are many issues to deal with since nothing is easy for Sebastian and his staff...or his mother for that fact. Especially, keeping the staff alive.

Still, with a bit of cleverness, they manage to recover jewels from the impenetrable vault in the most intriguing way, while teaching yet another woman to be strong. I love stories that have strong women in them. And this one is packed full of them!

And yes, there is explicit sex, which is well done, but the near-death moments and the clever heist were my fav parts.

The A Thief in Love Suspense Romance series is based around an ensemble cast. They are the members of Sebastian St. Croix’s band of merry thieves. Imagine a cross between Robin Hood and the Leverage series which ran on TNT from 2008 to 2012. My editor was the person to call my attention to the resemblance to the tv show.

The first book, It Takes a Cat Burglar, is the basis of all the stories to follow. It is Sebastian’s love story and our introduction to Darcelle, Jeanne, Max, Cade, and Bassinae. Each member of the team has special skills that assist Sebastian in his robberies of the wealthy. His thefts are very narrowly focused on items of artistic or historic value that the owners have purchased for their private collections, knowing that the pieces have been stolen, often from museums. He assures that these treasures are restored to the little people who have as much right to enjoy their cultural heritage as the wealthy.

How to Steal the Pharaoh’s Jewels is the story of Cade and Bassinae. It’s a friends-to-lovers novella that finds the team saving Cade’s life and stealing a set of heirloom jewelry designed to replicate the pectoral of Kheper scarab found in one of the layers of King Tutankhamun’s mummy.

The next book will be Max’s story, followed by Jeanne’s. Then who knows. Maybe I’ll just keep writing caper stories because they are a lot of fun.

Bringing the Sons of Tallav to the Cosmic Cabaret

My mind spun in all kinds of directions when I first heard that the SFR Shooting Stars were looking for authors to participate in the Cosmic Cabaret anthology. We were asked to bring our own universe into that of the L.S. Quantum.

Who from my Sons of Tallav Universe needed a vacation? In the end, I chose Master Trey, but his visit to the Blue Star line’s luxury starship isn’t a holiday. He’s been sent on a mission. I’ll get to that in a moment.

The Cosmic Cabaret is just one of the venues on the Quantum, which is the size of a small moon. Lots of space for the thirteen authors in the anthology to add to the world building already provided by the set creator, Jayne Fury. But all stories intersect in some way at the Cosmic Cabaret. Our world building was cross-pollinated through a discussion forum where we shared with one another the details about the Quantum and other venues we were creating in our stories. This was the best part of this anthology experience. I loved hearing what others were doing and seeing how they brought their characters into the setting.

The anthology is in the final prep for release on October 10.

When Patsy first meets Master Trey, she’s amazed. He’s as much of a Luddite as you can be in the distant future. But that’s not all she finds remarkable about Master Trey.

A quick glance over her shoulder assured her every inch of the giant with piercing deep brown eyes was following her to the shuttle gate. Oh my gosh, he’s checking out my ass. Her cheeks heated. An announcement stated boarding for their shuttle flight would commence in five minutes. Inside the gate seating area, Patsy turned to face Trey. “We have a few more minutes. Shall we sit, and ya can double-check that your bags have been loaded.”

Trey pulled a hand-comm from his pants pocket, held it to his ear, and made the call to the automated baggage handling system. After assuring the comm was off, he put it away.

“Ya use a hand-comm? Ya don’t see many people that do. I’d probably lose one, so my internal comm is a true blessin’. I don’t know how people lived in the past without an EBC. All my data is there at the tip of my thoughts. I was told everyone received nanite injections to build their internal server when they were infants.”

“I’m not a fan of tech. I like to keep things simple.”

Trey Johansson was even more intriguing than she’d imagined. “So, ya don’t have an EBC. Where do ya store information? How do ya know when someone is tryin’ to contact ya? Goodness. How do ya exist without bein’ able to connect with governmental systems? Bankin’ systems? Will there be a problem boardin’?” Why hadn’t he or Mr. Meryon told her this?

“Stop.” Trey narrowed his eyes and raised his hand. “Stop. Let me answer one question at a time.” In the pause that followed, Trey raised an eyebrow.

Oh, he wants me to acknowledge him. “Yes. Understood.”

A flush of pleasure went through her when he smiled. “Good girl. I have an EBC. Every child on Tallav receives one. I use it when necessary. My work-related data is kept on servers like most of yours is. You access it through your EBC. I use a vidscreen.” He patted his pocket. “My hand-comm signals me when I have a message. It tracks callers, just like your internal comm. I don’t like cluttering my mind. It destroys inner peace.”

He dropped his chin and looked at her as though he were expecting her to say something. But for a change she kept quiet. Her thoughts were bustling with everything she had learned about this man. That good girl was patronizing but so very BDSM master–like, especially coming from a hunk of handsome with a voice like smooth dark chocolate. She’d liked it. File that away for future reference on female reactions to Doms.

Like a low, throbbing bass note, his voice resonated through her to the ends of her fingers. Hell. She couldn’t move, much less turn. He trailed his hand along her collarbone. Despite the thick layer of duracloth between her and his fingertips, Darcelle was certain warmth penetrated the fabric.

His sudden yank startled her. Shock pulsed through her. He was undoing the seal on the hood of her skin suit.

“No!” She batted at him, twisting to escape his grasp. He clamped her in a bruising hold, immobilizing her.

“I said don’t turn. Stop struggling.”

Rapid inhalations of the sour combination of aged body odor and fear inside her skin suit made her nasal passages burn. She continued to writhe, fighting to free herself. He’s going to kill me!

“Fuck it. Stop. The air is pure. Look.”

Several moments passed before she registered the sun-darkened arm and hand waving in front of her. Long elegant fingers twiddled. Her breathing hitched. No gloves. He wasn’t wearing a skin suit. She stilled, allowing him to remove her hood.

“Do exactly as I say, and all will be well.”

With gentler hands he turned her toward him. She gasped. He was gorgeous. Only a master sculptor could have formed a face of such perfect symmetry. The masculinity of his high cheekbones, angled jaw, and straight brows was softened by his exquisite lips. Heat flushed through her body.

From beneath black locks slanting over his forehead, pale green eyes stared at her. Was he waiting for a response?

“Ummm.”

A smile flashed across his lips. “Are you ready to trust me?”

Darcelle pursed her lips. “I’ll try.”
