Liza Learns sumtin. Why do thing feel hot or cold?
Today, I learn why things feel warm or colder than the other thing even if it's actually the same temp. It all goes back to relativity again. It's the connection to you that matters.

The Fate of SkyRyders lies in your hands.
Or am I?
I planned to publish a 3 book series set in the future in 2014. However, the lack of interest in the series during the week of excerpts makes me think I might be better publishing a historical funny sleuth series instead. But I love sci-fi and have a great deal of stories to share, so I'm conflicted and need your opinions.
The historical series are funny, quirky, and fast paced.
My Futuristic story are intense, action packed, and emotionally charged.
Does this story interest you?
You can be honest.
Because I know the historical series will have an audience.
I'm just no longer certain about this series.
I need your input.

SFR Brigade Presents The SkyRyders Excerpt 7
In 2014 I'll be coming out with a futuristic series about a fabulous series called The SkyRyders. This is just a stand-in cover.
Alisha Cane has taught herself to fly beyond the limits of the possible. Recruited into the SkyRyder’s Corp, the army of the future she both succeeds and fails in dramatic turns. Follow the life of this extraordinary ‘debutante’ turned ‘street girl’ turned ‘soldier’ and the men who put their own careers at risk protecting her through her volatile career.
Here's an unedited
Excerpt 7:
“Can
I sleep here tonight?” Alisha asked.
Her
arms wrapped around Logan, her face tilted up—looking terribly young and
frightened.
He
sighed and gently pulled away from her, taking her hand, and leading her to a
chair, pulling another chair up to it, so he could comfortably face her.
“Alisha,
I know you’re a bit frightened being the new member of the crew. But the only
way you’ll ever fit in is by fitting in, even if it’s uncomfortable at first.”
The
cadet looked torn as if she wanted to tell him something, or maybe she was
simply trying not to cry.
So
he tried another tack. “Alisha, you’re an amazing flyer. But to be a great
SkyRyder, you have to work well with your team. A strong team eats, sleeps, and
laughs together. They are your brothers and sisters. You would die for each
other. You aren’t going to develop that type of bond if you separate yourself
from them.”
Alisha
sighed. “They’ve never actually killed anyone have they?”
“No!”
Logan exclaimed and the caressed her cheek. “Alisha, they were just teasing
you.”
“Then
you didn’t have a cadet die about two years ago?”

Excerpt 6:
For Logan, Alisha’s flying seemed
surreal. The maneuvers she did with casual ease weren’t possible, or so he had
been taught. Maybe that was the problem. The Corp training prevented fliers
from reaching their full potential.
He didn’t want to believe it but,
watching Alisha, he had to consider the possibility. Sure, she started with
natural talent, but within a single month of self-training she had exceeded the
skills of their best fliers. Hell, she’d exceeded what was thought possible.
Her abilities couldn’t be odder if
she had arrived in a space craft claiming to be from a superior alien race. He
only hoped the key differences resided in the modifications she’d made to
wind-catcher and her slats. Those differences could be shared within the Corp. Pure
flying ability wasn’t transferable.
Although just seeing a maneuver was
possible might encourage their talented Ryders to stretch a bit more….or get
them killed.

Excerpt 5:
When she had opened the possibility of him
rescinding his offer, Logan was tempted. His change of mind had nothing to do
with her attitude or the ethical gray areas in which she had dabbled. What
bothered him was his feeling for her.
She had talent, and yes, he believed, despite
much evidence to the contrary, she was an ethical person. But creating a
situation in which he would be around her twenty-four hours a day, every day—it
was as good as wondering if you uncoupled the train tracks, would the trains wreck.
Which, he observed, was an expression
that Alisha wouldn’t even understand, having never even seen a train.
With a sinking premonition of
disaster, he held to his offer and let them both into Daniel Kane’s room.
“Gramps, the colonel is getting me
into the Corp! Once I’m a Ryder, I’ll be able to buy your medication on my
health plan.” She knelt down beside her grandfather and looked up into his
tired old face. “Won’t you please take your medicine? I won’t do anything bad
again, I promise you.”
“Don’t promise me. It’s the colonel’s
career on line, not mine,” Daniel Kane said.

“When you calm down and let me speak,
I think you’ll see it’s not such a bad thing for you and your gramps either.”
“Nothing you could possibly say will
undo the damage you’ve done?”
“What damage do you think I’ve done?”
“You told my grandfather I was a
scavenger. That’s the lowest thing on earth to him.”
“By finding out early, he at least has a
chance to put a stop to it.”
“By refusing to take his medicine. I
know him. He’d rather die before he let me scavenge to get money for the drug.”
“Good for him.”
Alisha tried to push away from him. When
this failed, she repeatedly struck him with her fists. “How can you say that?”
Logan contained her. “You can’t save
him this way. It would’ve never worked. First time something went wrong, and
you got pinched for a spell, he’d have died anyway.”
“But at least I would have had him
for a time.”
“But at what price. You keep on this
path and you will kill him, for he’d
rather end his life early than to let you sacrifice yours.”
“Damn you, Colonel. Damn you to
hell!”

Excerpt 3:
Sane people feared D-Street. Alisha
just felt anger. People, through their bad choices and luck, ended up in this
wretched place. As bad as she and Gramps had it, their troubles didn’t compare
to the misery here. At least her Gramps had shelter. She was pretty certain some
of the bodies she stepped over weren’t just strung out, but were long dead. Hard
to tell. Sometimes a leg infested with maggots would move out of her way as she
walked down the street.
Reality constrained her desire to
help them. She could barely help Gramps. One wrong move and they’d be on the
streets as well.
As she searched for her contact she kept a low profile.
Strung out addicts would kill her in a second if they knew how much cash she
carried. For protection, she dressed like a mid-city teen. They’d only carry
about $10. Too little to kill for. A single hit of Phantasia cost $100. Killing
ten kids for a single hit was too much work for an addict. They’d be sick with
exhaustion by their fifth kill.

Excerpt 2:
Logan woke fully rested and
contented. Holding Alisha in his arms seemed so familiar and right it took him
almost a full minute to realize its wrongness. He checked his location on the
bed, afraid that in his sleep he had crossed over and violated her personal
space. He sighed with relief to discover Alisha had trespassed, not him.
For several minutes, he watched her
sleep, snuggled so tight against him. She looked young, younger than he had
thought her last night.
Too damned young for me. He forced himself from the bed. What the hell was he doing? Bringing
the girl into the Ryders would require all sorts of favors pulled. He couldn’t
afford to let matters get personal.
***
Alisha woke at the click of the
bedroom door. She cursed herself for falling asleep, but had no time for
regrets. The colonel might be back any second. Having made her decision to
escape ASAP, she donned her flight suit, unrolled two hundred dollars from the
roll of money and placed it on the counter, then gathered up her pack and bio
scan machine and headed out.

Excerpt 1:
Logan reassessed what he had learned
about Alisha. Her claim she had only been flying a month was an obvious lie, her
level of skill took years to acquire. Yet, she made her absurd claim with great
sincerity. Same with the claim she only scavenged for legal owners.
Logan had to give her credit. In all
the thousands of scavengers he’d arrested, not one had ever thought to make
this claim. Yet, she was quick with the names to back it up.
She didn’t lie about her license, or
lack thereof—obviously meant to establish her honesty, even if it meant
confessing to a lesser crime. The only time her ‘sincerity’ went shaky was when
he asked who trained her. Here she struggled, setting off all of Logan’s
interrogation alarms.
Despite all her short and cautious
answers, she revealed more than she intended. Her eating manners were first
class, suggesting she might be from high society, despite her current residency
in Doakstown. That in itself was an oddity. How did a pretty young socialite
fall so far in such a short time? Drugs? Gambling? Sex addiction?

Liza O Discusses the many ways our planet can kill us and why we should leave.
Before I get in my junk heap and abandon Earth, let me explain why I worry about my green blue planet filled with irrational mangy apes.
This planet is Unsafe!
Just ask the dinosaurs. Oh we can't, because this planet killed them.
How will the planet kill us?
It has lots of techniques:
Spewing volcanoes
Heating up so everything burns to a crisp
Releasing poisonous methane from the ocean's bottom.
Becoming a frigid block of ice for millions of years.
And flipping it magnetic field.
That's right, the earth is like a really slow A/C component that sends out it's spark of electricity once every 250K years or so.
Here's a picture of our normal magnetic field and what it looks like in a flip.
While these flips haven't shown any major wipeouts in the past, our past inhabitant didn't live in a world dependent upon electrical charges behaving.
I don't even want to think was that's going to do to our national grid and more importantly to my money, which isn't actually money, but data stored in a database.
00010010000001000101010101000*#&$#&$*#)
I so rarely use actual money, I can barely recognize it.
We often make fun of the panda bear who lives on a single food source.
But let's face it, humans are no better. We depend on electricity. Without it, nothing works.
You might say, then I'll go buy a generator and create my own electricity.
First, are you seriously going to use your last paper money (assuming it still has value) and buy a generator only to discover the Electro Magnetic Pulses didn't just destroy the grid, but the wiring in your house as well.
Secondly, gas pumps don't work without electricity, so they'll be no gas to run your generator.
We are truly like the Panda. Our lives depend upon electricity. Without it, we will self destruct, starve and die.
Oh wait, perhaps we can outlast the flip.
Bad news there. The flip takes 2000 years.
(The Earth clearly works by a different time clock than us.)
There is also a health hazard during the flip because our magnetic shield ceases to properly block the radiation from the sun.
There is no evidence of this problem in prior flips, but that could be because we don't survive long enough to get cancer.
And when is this supposed to happen?
No clue. If scientist actually know, they are being cagey with the truth.
One NASA article says we've got about 4000 years, but that's a guess, probably with a variance of + or - 4000. What we do know is that it is going to happen, and we need to start preparing for it, because right now it's not survivable.
Suddenly Richard Bramson seems a man of vision.
Richard, can I get a seat on the next flight out? Your ship looks much nicer than my imaginary one.

Liza O'Connor interviews the book, The Secret of Narava by Isabo Kelly
Welcome Space Peeps. Today I interview the book The Secret of Narava written by Isabo Kelly.
Space Rep: I like the author's name, Isabo. It makes me happy.
Liza: It does, right? We should adopt Isabo. Then we wouldn't fight so much.
Space Rep: Good point. Can you invite Isabo over...instead of interviewing her book.
Liza: No. She's sent her book. Or she was suppose to have sent her book. *bangs on transporter* Space Rep have you been playing with this thing again?
Space Rep: Isabo! Yes, I did. Isabo!
Liza: *smiles* You do like to tinker. So is it broke or--Here comes the book. Wow, it's small.
Liza: Welcome The Secrets of Narava. Mind if I call you Narava, unless you have a character with that name.
Narava: Why is the hairless primate asking me that? She can't hear my answer.
Liza: As a matter of fact, I can hear books. And I find the term hairless primate offensive.
Narava: My apologies. Would you prefer 'mostly hairless'?
Liza: Why is it no one sends me books with manners?
Narava: Have you tried interviewing an etiquette book? They aren't very interesting and have a devil of a temper.
Liza: Good point. And I hate being scolded. So we'll stay with tiny you. I apologize that my transporter shrunk you. Space Rep is taking a course in Space Repairs. So far he's only creating jobs for the future when he eventually learns how to do stuff. At the current rate, he'll be occupied for a long time.
Narava: I can't help you with repairing a spaceship, but if you have paleontology questions about Narava, I'm your book.
Liza: Great! So tell me about yourself.
Narava: First, to set the mood, a warning:
Liza: Bet he hasn't. What's Nathan's perspective of this lack of memory?
Narava: Nathan thought guarding an archaeological dig site would be an easy and welcome break from his normal high-tension contracts.
Liza: I believe they are actually difficult to protect.
Narava: He'll worry about that later, right now he's comes face-to-face with a woman he hasn't been able to forget for the last three years.
Liza: Ha! Told you.
Narava: He finds himself torn between the job and dragging Ti'ann back to his ship to remind her of those brief erotic nights they spent together. Nights she seems to have forgotten.
Liza: This is so Venus and Mars. How we ever managed to populate planets I'll never know. It takes two to Tango, but neither party thinks the other remembers how to dance.
Narava: No, I think you misunderstood me.
Space Rep: She understood you, she just likes to talk around the subject of sex, making really stupid Tango references instead.
Narava: Thank you for explaining, because neither of my characters know anything about this tango.
Liza: Well done, Space Rep.
Space Rep: So Narava, want to tell us about Isabo Kelly?
Narava: I would love to.
Space Rep: I found her legal stalking links too:
Liza: And leave a comment. We authors love comments.
Space Rep: I like the author's name, Isabo. It makes me happy.
Liza: It does, right? We should adopt Isabo. Then we wouldn't fight so much.
Space Rep: Good point. Can you invite Isabo over...instead of interviewing her book.

Narava: I can't help you with repairing a spaceship, but if you have paleontology questions about Narava, I'm your book.
Liza: Great! So tell me about yourself.
Narava: First, to set the mood, a warning:
Their discovery could lead to war . . .
*plays dark threatening music*
Paleontologist, Dr. Ti'ann Jones, uncovers a mystery
that could alter the course of her planet's future, putting her and her people
in grave danger.
Liza: I love mysteries.
Narava: She's forced to call in security to protect her dig site. But
the man who shows up threatens Ti'ann on a much more personal level.
Liza: Why?
Narava: She's
spent the last three years trying to forget Nathan Longfeather and the
incredible things he did to her body, but it's apparent he's already forgotten
her.

Space Rep: She understood you, she just likes to talk around the subject of sex, making really stupid Tango references instead.
Narava: Thank you for explaining, because neither of my characters know anything about this tango.
Liza: So what happens?
Narava: As the truth of Ti'ann's discovery is
revealed, Nathan's job gets a lot more serious.
Liza: I told you.
Narava: Keeping Ti'ann and her team
alive becomes his top priority.
Liza: I'm guessing this is more than just the normal scavenger issues.
Narava: Oh yes. They live in a time when anything to do with Narava's
native species, the Shifters, leads to violence. Ti'ann and Nathan face enemies
from both sides of the conflict and will have to find a way to prevent a planet-wide
war.
Liza: That sounds like a full time job. What about their potential romance?
Narava: If they can survive, they might just have a future . . . together.
Liza: Might. I want more than a might.
Narava: Read the book and you might receive it.
Liza: *huffs* May I at least peek beneath you covers and read a bit.
Narava: Of course. Just don't try to steal any of the words.
EXCERPT:
Was she brave enough to try seducing
him? Would he laugh at her?
Ti'ann flexed and fisted her hands
against her thighs. Her two previous lovers had both laughed at her for
attempting to act sexy. And as Krin had so accurately pointed out, Nathan was
no staid professor or hotshot digger. True, Nathan hadn’t laughed at her three
years ago. But two nights of freedom couldn’t overcome a lifetime of
uncertainty. Odds were in favor of him dismissing her attempts at seduction
because she’d experienced that more often than anything else with men.
With everything else going on, she
wasn’t sure she’d be able to stand having Nathan turn her down. There was only
so much mortification her pride could take.
She stood up and squared her
shoulders. Tonight, pride would win out over bravery. She was just too tired to
be courageous.
But as she stepped out of the imaging
tent, she stepped into Nathan.
“Oh.” She came up short and the
abrupt move made her stumble back a step. He caught her shoulders and held her
until she’d righted herself. “Sorry about that. I wasn’t expecting to see you.”
She forced herself to look at him. Heat warmed her cheeks and her stomach
flipped a giddy little somersault. Thoughts of pride and bravery vanished under
awareness of the feel of his hands on her shoulders.
He kept his hands on her long enough
to thrill her, fill her with a hope that she hated as much as savored. Then he
released her and took a step back.
“I didn’t mean to startle you,” he
said, his voice quiet. “I wanted to make sure you were okay.”
She narrowed her gaze. “What do you
mean?”
“Dinner with Samuels.” His brows
lowered and his mouth turned down in the barest of frowns. “His idea?”
“Ah.” So he wasn’t talking about her
rapid heartbeat and breathless state. He hadn’t noticed she was on the verge of
throwing herself at him. “Yes, dinner was his idea. And it was the most
uncomfortable meal I’ve ever been forced to eat.” Even trying to eat under
Nathan’s scrutiny last night had been easier to take. “But I’m fine.”
“What did he want?”
“To chat, I guess. I don’t know. I
was too anxious to be away from him to care what he wanted.”
Nathan stared at her for a very long
moment, but she couldn’t decipher his mood at all. What was he thinking? Did he
have any idea what she’d been thinking just moments ago?
Would he laugh at her if she kissed
him?
“Be careful around him,” Nathan
finally said. “I’ve check into him a little more. There’s not much there. But
he’s definitely not here for the reasons he claims.”
She glanced around and lowered her
voice. “He’s…?”
“Back at his ship. And being
watched.”
She wanted to ask more questions but
also didn’t want to be overheard. She asked the one thing she really wanted to
know. “He’s not a legitimate inspector then? You’re sure. He’s here because of
the dig.”
Nathan nodded.
They’d known from the beginning the
coincidence was too much. Having Nathan confirm their suspicions made her
stomach sore. She glanced back at the imaging tent.
“Everything is going to be fine,
Ti’ann,” Nathan murmured.
She faced him again and realized he
was standing closer, so near she wouldn’t have to lean very far to fall against
him. She flicked her tongue out to wet her dry lips and watched his gaze drop
to her mouth. Oh god. That look. So hot, so erotic. So well remembered. He had
great hands, and he knew exactly how and where to touch her body to make her
scream. Tension gathered low in her abdomen as she imagined his fingers
trailing down her stomach. Followed by his lips.
No longer able to resist, she did
lean toward him, watching his mouth as intently as he’d stared at hers. That
mouth had done the most wonderful things to her body three years ago. And she
wanted…needed to have him again. Even if she was making a fool of herself, even
though he didn’t remember her, even if this would hurt her even more when it
ended. She didn’t care. He was heat, strength, comfort and freedom all combined
into the sexiest, most handsome man she’d ever known. Walking away from this
chance would be worse than taking it.
She met his gaze, so dark in the
moonlight, and started going to him.
“Goodnight, Dr. Jones.” Ti’ann jolted
out of the moment, straightening just in time to see two of the volunteers
passing on their way to their tent. One of the girls, Micca, waved as they
walked by.
She nodded to them, unable to speak
around the thumping of her heartbeat. When the young women were out of sight,
she faced Nathan again. He was farther away now. And his expression was
unreadable again.
“Get some sleep,” he murmured. “I’ll
make sure Samuels doesn’t do any harm tonight.”
She wanted to say something,
anything. But her mind was a blank. He walked away well before it started
working again.
Standing in the chilly night air, she
realized once again she’d forgotten to mention his jacket.
Which meant the garment was waiting
for her in her tent, filling her bed with the smell of him.
